The New National Gallery in Berlin
Location: Berlin, Germany
Year: 1968
Architects: Mies van der Rohe
The Neue Nationalgalerie (The New National Gallery), located within the Kulturforum, serves as a modern art museum in Berlin, primarily concentrating on the art of the early 20th century. It constitutes a component of the National Gallery of the Berlin State Museums. Both the museum's architectural design and its accompanying sculpture gardens were envisioned by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and were inaugurated in 1968.
In 2015, the gallery temporarily ceased operations for a comprehensive renovation. The restoration project, carried out by David Chipperfield Architects, was finalized in 2021. In August of the same year, the museum celebrated its reopening, marked by an exhibition featuring the works of American sculptor Alexander Calder.
